Family Central 2016 Food Collection

Family Central Food Drive
May 15 - 31

As I did last year, I am asking for your help to feed our hungry children.  Some children who receive school lunches will no longer benefit from that program once school is in recess. Sometimes during the school year, they go home on the weekends without provisions.

Knowing this, how can we possibly let this happen to these innocent children?  We must try to make a difference.

PLEASE join me for our Family Central Food Drive May 15 – 31. Non-perishable food can be dropped off at City Hall,7525 NW 88th Ave., as well as the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd.

This is something each of us can help with, and no donation is too small.  Publix and Winn Dixie have buy one/get one free specials.  The dollar store has pasta, sauce and Ramon Noodle packages for $1. These items can make the difference between a child having a meal or going to bed hungry.

Please let these children know they matter and we care! Thank you for all your support,

Debra Placko

Vice Mayor
City of Tamarac

Crime Mapping

A new crime mapping tool makes it easier than ever to keep informed about crime activity in BSO districts, including Tamarac. It is available on any of the three websites below:

Here’s how to access it on www.tamarac.org

  • Click the “Department” tab in the top right corner of the website
  • Scroll down to “Police”
  • Scroll over to “BSO Crime Map” and click the link

Once the map comes up you can choose filters from the menu on the left side of the screen. Click “what” and options will be displayed such as arson, robbery or fraud. You can select a street location or zip code by clicking “where”.  Lastly you can choose “when” to select a timeframe.

While the information is updated frequently, it may be delayed by one day.

I think you will find that this system is very user friendly. If I can navigate it, so can you.

Recycling in Tamarac

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to earn rewards for yourself while doing something good for the environment. Recycling in Tamarac allows you to participate in a reward program to earns points that can be redeemed for discounts and deals at local vendors as well as national businesses.  An example of this would be a magazine subscription.

To participate in this program, you can register online at www.recyclebank.com, or by calling (888) 727-2978.  You must periodically report recycling activity to earn points.

New Construction Draws Out Wildlife

As the new construction begins within the Woodmont community several issues have come to light regarding the displacement of wildlife.

In order to protect your property from our wildlife, please take the following precautions:

  • Close off all air conditioning compression hoses with a foam product.
  • Close in all garage openings, keep garages closed.
  • Do not leave food in garbage bags, store all trash in trash cans.
  • As much as we all love to feed the birds, this attracts raccoons.  Please remove bird feeders.

Please be aware of raccoons, possums or rodents around your property.
