Colony West closed unexpectedly on August 27, 2013.
The City purchased the property in a short sale a few years ago to help ensure the site remained open space. Tamarac then leased it back to the former owners, who were unable to meet their obligations. While they closed unexpectedly, the owners of the business are responsible for their business commitments.
The City has issued a Request for Proposals and is in the process of interviewing other companies to lease the property and manage the golf course. Responses to the RFP are due on October 1, and the City hopes to move forward with the best proposal as soon as possible.
The City continues to maintain the property as a golf course; we view the situation as temporary and look forward to reopening in the near future. As the landowner, until a new operator is in place the City will take care of general maintenance issues.
