Tamarac was cited for the Let’s Move and Play Together program, implemented to teach elementary age children the importance of physical activity, healthy eating and pledging to lead a healthy lifestyle. A partnership between the Parks and Recreation Department and the Center for Hearing and Communication, it’s offered to children with special needs and hearing disabilities as well as children from the City’s after school program. It pairs mainstream children with those who are hard of hearing in a comfortable setting, which allows them to play and find ways to work together.
This year’s winning cities were selected by former mayors from a pool of over 200 applicants.
