Tropical Storm Nicole Update #4

The City of Tamarac has assessed the impact of Tropical Storm / Hurricane Nicole and will resume all operations on Saturday, November 12.


Sanitation
Waste Management will resume its sanitation collection schedule on Friday, November 11, 2022.


Parks
City parks remain closed to the public, but will reopen on Friday, November 11, 2022. The Caporella Fitness Center will reopen tomorrow with holiday hours, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Youth and adult programming will return on Saturday, November 12.

 

Veterans Day
We look forward to seeing everyone for the City's Veterans Day Ceremony tomorrow. Taking place at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd., this free ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. and will include keynote speaker Officer Jamal Allen Sowell.

Tropical Storm Nicole Update #3

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 

Nicole update

 

Due to the threat of Tropical Storm Nicole, the City of Tamarac, declared an official State of Emergency, effective Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Broward County and several other Florida counties are also under a State of Emergency. City of Tamarac staff and Emergency Management personnel continue to closely monitor the movement and potential impact of Tropical Storm Nicole. 

 

Currently, Broward County is under a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate Wednesday, November 9 -- peaking in the evening hours, through Thursday morning. Tropical Storm Nicole is predicted to make landfall in Broward County Wednesday night, with conditions continuing until Thursday afternoon.  Damaging tropical storm force winds are expected to impact portions of Broward County. Excessive rainfall leading to flooding as well as tornadoes are possible upon Tropical Storm Nicole’s arrival. 

 

Please continue to closely monitor future forecasts and briefings, as weather conditions can change quickly with slight movements in the storm track. Preparation is key. City of Tamarac residents and business owners should be aware of the following:


Hours of Operation

Tamarac City Hall and all City of Tamarac facilities will close Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. and remain closed through Thursday, November 10. City facilities will be closed Friday, due to the Veterans Day holiday. 

 

Regular City Commission Meeting 

The City of Tamarac’s Regular Commission Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. is cancelled. Select items on the November 9, 2022 agenda will advance to future City Commission Meeting agendas.

 

Public Meetings 

All City of Tamarac Board and Committee meetings scheduled through Thursday, November 10, 2022 are cancelled. The scheduled will resume on Monday, November 14, 2022.  

 

Parks and Facilities

As of 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 9 through Thursday, November 10, all City of Tamarac parks will close, along with the City’s Fitness Center, Community Center and Recreation Center. 

 

Wednesday, November 9, the golf course at Colony West Golf Club and The View At Colony West Restaurant and banquet hall will close at 4 p.m. Please call 954-721-7710 for Thursday’s hours.    

 

Programs

All youth and adult programs and classes will be suspended from Wednesday, November 9, at 12 p.m. through Thursday, November 10. 

 

Tamarac University

The Fall 2022 Tamarac University Graduation scheduled for November 9, at 6 p.m. has been postponed. 

 

Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Tamarac’s annual Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony scheduled for Friday, November 11 is slated to take place as scheduled. In the event of a cancellation due to the aftereffects of Tropical Storm Nicole, notice will be posted at www.Tamarac.org

 

Transportation

City of Tamarac shuttle service will be suspended on November 9, 2022 at 2 p.m., through Thursday, November 10th

 

Tamarac Food Pantry

Residents with impacted appointments at the Tamarac Food Pantry will be contacted by staff to reschedule.


Broward County Public Schools

Broward County’s public schools are closed on Wednesday, November 9. For updates regarding Broward County School closures, please visit https://www.browardschools.com/. 

 

Sanitation

Wednesday, November 9, 2022, Waste Management will follow Tamarac’s normal sanitation collection schedule. Collections scheduled for Thursday, November 10 are suspended and will resume on the next regularly scheduled day. For real-time updates regarding your neighborhood’s residential sanitation collection services, please visit www.wmfloridastorm.com.

 

Storm-Related Debris

During severe weather events, storm debris on public roads can be reported at www.Tamarac.org. Click "How Can We Help." Type the location in the space provided. Under “Request Category,” scroll to the applicable category selection. Then follow the prompts to complete the online form. You may also call the City of Tamarac’s 24-Hour Emergency Line at 954-597-3750.

 

City of Tamarac personnel are conducting thorough sweeps of the City to remove hazardous roadway debris. Please note that commercial and residential property owners are responsible for debris removal on private property. Remember that objects such as trash or vegetative yard waste that are not properly secured can become dangerous flying projectiles during sever weather events. Please secure all loose objects on your property and continue to avoid trimming trees at this time.  

 

Power Outages

Power outages at your home or business due to weather conditions can be reported to Florida Power & Light at www.FPL.com. Track area power outages at www.FPLmaps.com

 

Sandbag Distribution        

No sandbag distributions are scheduled to take place in the city of Tamarac. 

 

Potential Flooding

City of Tamarac stormwater mitigation systems are fully operational and being monitored around the clock.

Tropical Strom Nicole Update #2

Update: 

Due to the potential impact of Tropical Storm Nicole, Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency in several Florida counties including Broward County. Broward County has also declared a State of Emergency. City of Tamarac staff and Emergency Management personnel are closely monitoring the movement and potential impact of Tropical Storm Nicole. 

 

Currently, Broward County is under a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate in the morning hours of Wednesday, November 9. Tropical Storm Nicole is predicted to make landfall in Broward County late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  Damaging tropical storm force winds are expected to impact portions of Broward County, mainly near and along the coast.
